Traceability Levels

Flexible DPP Structures According to Your Reality
We can trace anything…

Support for model, batch, item-level, and hybrid Digital Product Passports.

AeonTrace adapts to the way your products are actually made, consumed, transformed, and traced. We help you define the optimal combination of traceability levels for your products, processes, and regulatory needs.

Different products require different Digital Product Passport and traceability strategies. Some products are best represented at model level, others at batch level, and others require full item-level traceability. In real industrial environments, companies often need a combination of these approaches.

AeonTrace supports model, batch, item, and hybrid level DPP granularity structures, allowing companies to choose the level of detail that fits their product, regulation, production system, supply chain, and business model.

The platform does not only record what product was created. It also models how materials, components, sub-batches, parts, and resources are consumed and transformed during production. This allows AeonTrace to represent real industrial flows, whether materials are measured in kilograms, litres, pieces, metres, square metres, bars, rolls, batches, units, or any other relevant unit of measure.

Model-Level DPP

A passport connected to a product model or product type, where the same core information applies to all products with the same design or technical characteristics.

Example

A furniture company creates one DPP for a specific chair model, including material composition, care instructions, repairability information, environmental data, and compliance documentation that applies to all chairs of that model.

Best for

Standard product families, catalog products, low-risk products, or products where individual traceability is not required.

Batch-Level DPP

A passport connected to a defined batch structure, such as a production batch, material batch, supplier batch, quality batch, logistics batch, assembly batch, or any other batch specification used by the company.
AeonTrace supports multiple batch types (solid material, liquid, in the form of bars etc), allowing each company to model batches according to how materials, components, products, processes, inspections, and logistics are actually managed in its operations.

Example

A textile manufacturer creates one DPP for a batch of fabric produced from the same yarn lot, dyeing process, chemical treatment, and quality inspection results.

Best for

Textiles, plastics, chemicals, food, construction materials, recycled materials, coatings, powders, liquids, and high-volume production where batch identity is the most meaningful traceability level.

Item-Level DPP

A passport connected to a single individual product unit, enabling unique traceability across production, logistics, use, maintenance, repair, reuse, and end-of-life.

Example

A gearbox manufacturer creates a unique DPP for each individual gearbox. The DPP links the final unit to the specific gear, shaft, housing, assembly records, quality inspections, torque tests, lubrication data, supplier certificates, and future maintenance or repair events connected to that exact gearbox.

Best for

High-value products, durable products, machinery, electronics, batteries, vehicles, medical or laboratory equipment, aerospace components, and products requiring unique lifecycle records.

Hybrid DPP

A combined DPP structure where different parts of the same product or value chain are traced at different levels, model, batch, item, component, or material level, depending on what matters operationally or regulatorily.

Example

A kayak may have an item-level DPP for the final product, batch-level traceability for the recycled plastic used, supplier-level records for collected marine waste, and process-level data for recycling, moulding, finishing, and quality inspection.

Another example

A battery system may have an item-level DPP for the battery pack, item-level or batch-level traceability for modules and cells, batch-level traceability for raw materials, and lifecycle records for use, repair, second life, and recycling.

Best for

Complex products, circular products, products with many suppliers, multi-material products, regulated products, and cases where different data granularity is needed for different parts of the value chain.

Real Consumption Modelling

AeonTrace models consumption as it happens in real operations. The platform can record any type of consumption, full, partial, batch-based, item-based, mixed, or hybrid, and link it to the resulting product, batch, sub-batch, item, component, or process. This means AeonTrace can trace not only simple mass flows, but any relevant unit of measure, including:

Mass

Kilograms, grams, tonnes

Volume

Litres, millilitres, cubic metres

Pieces

Components, units, parts, items

Length

Metres of bars, cables, pipes, profiles, fabric, rolls

Area

Square metres of panels, sheets, textiles, films, surfaces

Custom units, any unit required by the customer’s process

Discrete to discrete

Batch to batch

Batch to discrete

Batch to pieces

Custom units

AeonTrace can trace anything, anywhere, at any level of detail, from product models and batches to individual items, materials, components, processes, and lifecycle events.

Data Control

Data Sharing Policies

Share data without losing control.

AeonTrace gives data owners full control over what information is shared, with whom, and under which conditions.

Advanced traceability and Digital Product Passports require collaboration across suppliers, customers, auditors, partners, service providers, and other stakeholders. But not every stakeholder should see the same information.

AeonTrace includes a built-in mechanism called Data Sharing Policies, allowing the data owner to define exactly which data can be accessed by each stakeholder. Public information, private company data, supplier-specific data, customer-facing information, audit evidence, and partner-level access can all be managed through controlled sharing rules.

This allows companies to collaborate across the value chain while protecting sensitive information, business know-how, supplier details, and internal operational data.

Not sure what data to share or with whom? We can guide you through the relevant product category standards and regulations.

With AeonTrace, collaboration does not mean losing control. It means sharing the right data with the right stakeholder at the right time.

Key benefits

100% control by the data owner

Define who can access each type of information.

Stakeholder-specific visibility

Share different data with suppliers, customers, auditors, integrators, recyclers, or service providers.

Secure collaboration

Enable Digital Product Passport and traceability data exchange without exposing confidential information.

Flexible access levels

No. AeonTrace supports regulatory compliance, but it is not limited to compliance. It provides advanced traceability across production and supply chain operations, helping companies manage product, material, component, spare part, process, and lifecycle data in one structured platform. This enables easier generation of Digital Product Passports, automated product reporting, quality data collection, maintenance tracking, inventory management at model, batch, and item level, circularity implementation, sustainability reporting, customer transparency, and better operational decision-making. In this way, AeonTrace acts as a digital data backbone that helps companies improve visibility, optimize processes, reduce manual work, and securely share information with stakeholders and customers.

A Digital Product Passport is a digital record connected to a product, component, batch, material, or product model. It contains relevant information about the product’s origin, composition, production, use, maintenance, repair, reuse, recycling, environmental impact, and compliance status.

AeonTrace supports all main DPP and traceability levels, including:

  • Model-level DPP: A passport connected to a product model or product type, where the same information applies to all products with the same technical characteristics.
  • Batch-level DPP: A passport connected to a production batch or lot, allowing traceability of products manufactured under the same production conditions, time period, material inputs, or supply chain context.
  • Item-level DPP: A passport connected to a single individual product unit, enabling unique traceability of each item across production, use, maintenance, repair, reuse, and end-of-life.
  • Component/material-level traceability: Traceability of specific components, raw materials, spare parts, sub-assemblies, or material inputs used in the final product.
  • Process-level traceability: Traceability of production, quality, logistics, maintenance, and lifecycle events connected to the product or batch.

This flexibility allows AeonTrace to support different regulatory, operational, and business needs, from high-volume batch tracking to unique item-level product passports.

AeonTrace is a domain-agnostic and highly flexible platform that can be applied across multiple sectors, including manufacturing, construction, textiles, electronics, plastics, batteries, cosmetics, machinery, medical and laboratory equipment, aerospace, and circular economy value chains and more. It can be easily adapted and customized to the specific needs of each use case, enabling companies to define the required DPP structure, traceability level, data fields, workflows, and access rights according to their products and operations.

Investing now makes sense because regulations, customer expectations, sustainability requirements, circularity targets, and supply chain transparency demands are continuously increasing. AeonTrace supports not only Digital Product Passport requirements under the EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulations (ESPR), but also broader environmental, sustainability, circularity, quality, and compliance-related needs where accurate product and production data are required as evidence.

By using AeonTrace as a digital data backbone, companies can structure their product, material, process, and lifecycle data in one platform. This allows them to prepare for current and upcoming obligations, optimize their processes, improve quality, reduce manual reporting, and communicate reliable product information to customers, auditors, partners, and other stakeholders in an easy and automated way.

AeonTrace helps companies achieve their operational, regulatory, sustainability, and circularity goals while reducing the cost and time required to manage product data, prepare reports, and communicate reliable information. The platform provides full traceability across the production process, supply chain, and logistics operations, improving data availability, compliance preparation, sustainability claims, supplier collaboration, and circular economy services such as repair, reuse, recycling, and remanufacturing.

Many companies already collect large amounts of product, process, quality, and supply chain data, but this data often remains fragmented, disconnected, and underused. AeonTrace gives meaning to this data by structuring it around products, materials, processes, lifecycle events, and stakeholders, transforming it into usable and actionable information. This enables companies to manage products more effectively across their entire lifecycle, improve quality management, calculate KPIs more accurately, optimize processes, and maintain better control over use, maintenance, repair, recycling, and end-of-life activities.

Yes. AeonTrace improves internal operations by connecting product data with production steps, material inputs, inventory, quality inspections, energy use, waste, logistics, maintenance activities, and lifecycle events. The platform allows companies to manage raw materials, components, spare parts, batches, and finished products at quantity, batch, and item level, while linking inventory information directly with production and quality records. In this way, AeonTrace brings visibility to all operational processes, enables traceability of quality characteristics, supports better decision-making, and helps companies manage production, resources, and products more effectively.

Yes. AeonTrace can collect and structure data related to materials, recycled content, carbon footprint, energy consumption, waste, repairability, reuse potential, and end-of-life treatment.

Yes. AeonTrace allows companies to decide which information is public, private, or shared only with selected stakeholders. This supports transparent and controlled communication of sustainability-related data.

Collecting data is an important first step, but in many companies this data remains fragmented, unstructured, disconnected, or difficult to use. Information may exist in Excel files, ERP systems, supplier documents, certificates, emails, quality reports, folders, or operator records, but it is often not connected to the specific product, batch, component, process step, or lifecycle event where it is needed.

AeonTrace helps by transforming existing data and traceability records into structured, usable, and actionable information. Instead of spending valuable time searching across different systems, folders, documents, and departments, operators, managers, quality teams, sustainability teams, and auditors can access the right information faster and in the correct context.

It is worth asking yourself a practical question: “When you need specific product, quality, supplier, material, or production information, how long does it currently take you to find it?”

This is where AeonTrace creates value. It gives meaning to the data already collected, connects it with the relevant product, material, batch, item, supplier, process, and lifecycle stage, and makes it usable for traceability, reporting, compliance, KPI calculation, quality management, customer communication, and decision-making.

No. AeonTrace is designed to complement existing systems. It can collect and structure data from ERP, MES, PLM, quality systems, supplier systems, and manual sources.

Instead, it complements them by using the data already available in ERP, MES, PLM, quality management systems, supplier systems, spreadsheets, or other internal databases, and connects this information with the product, batch, item, material, process, and lifecycle context.

If a company is already collecting data, this is an advantage because AeonTrace can use those existing data sources and reduce the implementation effort and cost. The platform acts as a digital data backbone that structures, connects, and makes the data usable for traceability, Digital Product Passport generation, compliance reporting, quality management, sustainability reporting, KPI calculation, and customer communication.

In simple terms, the ERP manages business operations, while AeonTrace gives product, production, supply chain, and lifecycle data the structure and traceability needed for DPPs, compliance, circularity, and advanced product management.

AeonTrace can store almost any type of information related to products, materials, components, processes, stakeholders, and lifecycle events. The platform is highly flexible and can be configured to capture data in different forms, including structured fields, files, images, certificates, quality records, production data, supplier information, energy and waste data, maintenance records, repair information, and recycling data. More importantly, AeonTrace stores this information in a structured and usable way, allowing companies to use it for traceability, reporting, compliance, quality management, sustainability, and decision-making.

Yes. AeonTrace supports traceability at item, batch, sub-batch, component, material, and process level, depending your needs. Unlike solutions that focus only on one traceability level, AeonTrace is designed to support multiple traceability approaches within the same platform. This allows companies to comply with regulatory requirements while also addressing practical business needs such as production traceability, supplier traceability, inventory management, quality control, logistics tracking, lifecycle monitoring, and circularity implementation.

Yes. Suppliers can connect to AeonTrace either through the platform interface or through APIs and provide the required information directly in a structured format. This enables automated and standardized supplier data collection, reducing the need for manual editing, reformatting, or importing by your team. As a result, supplier information becomes immediately usable for traceability, reporting, compliance, and Digital Product Passport generation.

The DPP can be updated with lifecycle events such as repair, refurbishment, reuse, repurposing, remanufacturing, recycling, or disposal. This creates a dynamic history of the product.

Yes. AeonTrace supports dynamic updates, allowing the DPP to evolve throughout the full lifecycle of a product, including production, logistics, use, maintenance, repair, reuse, remanufacturing, recycling, and end-of-life stages. The platform is designed to handle different lifecycle steps and provide the corresponding features, data structures, and workflows required at each stage.

AeonTrace also supports both static and updatable inputs. Static inputs can be locked to preserve the originality and integrity of critical information, such as initial product specifications, certificates, production records, or compliance evidence. At the same time, updatable inputs can be modified during the lifecycle of the product, while maintaining a full history of changes, updates, and lifecycle events. This allows companies to protect original product information while still keeping the DPP alive and relevant over time.

Yes. Certificates, test reports, manuals, inspection results, declarations of conformity, environmental documents, and other files can be attached to the DPP.

Yes. AeonTrace can be configured to connect with company storage systems such as SharePoint, OneDrive, internal document repositories, or other cloud storage environments. In this case, the DPP can store the structured information, metadata, references, access links, or file identifiers, while the actual files remain stored in your own environment.

This approach allows companies to use AeonTrace as the structured DPP and traceability layer without necessarily duplicating all documents inside the platform. It helps preserve existing data ownership, internal file management practices, access policies, and IT security procedures. At the same time, the relevant certificates, reports, manuals, quality documents, maintenance files, or compliance evidence can still be connected to the correct product, batch, item, material, process, or lifecycle event.

Where needed, AeonTrace can also support direct file upload to the platform, so you can decide whether documents should be stored inside AeonTrace, linked from existing storage systems, or managed through a hybrid approach.

Data can be entered into AeonTrace in three main ways: manually, automatically, or through a hybrid approach.

Data can be entered manually through the desktop web application or through a tablet/mobile interface, allowing operators, suppliers, quality teams, maintenance teams, or managers to provide the required information directly into the platform. This is useful when data is not yet available in existing digital systems or when human validation is required.

Data can also be collected automatically through API integrations with existing systems such as ERP, MES, PLM, quality management systems, laboratory systems, supplier systems, IoT platforms, or other databases. In this case, information can flow directly into AeonTrace in a structured format without the need for manual re-entry.

In many cases, the best approach is hybrid: some data is collected automatically through APIs, while other information is entered manually through the platform interface. This gives companies flexibility and allows implementation even when not all data sources are fully digitalized.

Yes. AeonTrace can integrate with existing enterprise systems through APIs. The level of integration depends on the your digital maturity and available data infrastructure.

Implementation time depends on the complexity of the product, the number of stakeholders involved, the required integrations, the availability and quality of existing data, and the level of support provided by your IT team.

A basic pilot can usually be implemented in 2–3 days, especially when the objective is to demonstrate the DPP structure, traceability logic, data entry process, QR-based access, and basic reporting for one product, batch, or use case.

A full implementation typically takes from one week to one month, depending on the complexity of the product structure, the number of systems that need to be connected, the availability of APIs, the number of suppliers or internal users involved, and the speed at which your IT and operational teams can provide access, data, and technical support.

In general, AeonTrace can be deployed quickly because the platform is already available and configurable. The main factor influencing implementation time is not the platform itself, but the readiness of your data, systems, stakeholders, and internal decision-making process.

To start an AeonTrace implementation, the first and most important step is to define the scope and objective of the implementation. In other words, we need to answer two key questions: “What do you want to achieve with AeonTrace?” and “What information do you need to capture, manage, trace, report, and share through the platform?”

Based on this, we usually need information about the product structure, production steps, key materials, components, suppliers, available data sources, required DPP fields, target users, access rights, reporting needs, and the main internal or external stakeholders involved. We also need to understand whether the focus is compliance, Digital Product Passport generation, supply chain traceability, production traceability, inventory management, quality management, sustainability reporting, circularity implementation, customer communication, or a combination of these.

Once the scope is clear, AeonTrace can be configured around your specific product, process, value chain, data requirements, and business objectives.

Yes. AeonTrace is designed to support companies in preparing for and complying with upcoming Digital Product Passport requirements under the EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR). The platform structures product, material, process, supply chain, environmental, and lifecycle data in a flexible and standards-aligned way, making it easier for companies to generate, manage, update, and share Digital Product Passports.

AeonTrace is designed to conform to the eight European DPP technical standards developed by CEN-CENELEC under mandate M/604. The first six standards in the series were published on May and September, which means a DPP built to them is presumed to conform with the DPP requirements of the ESPR:

  • EN 18216:2026 – Data exchange protocols
  • EN 18219:2026 – Unique identifiers for products, operators, and facilities
  • EN 18220:2026 – Data carriers, including QR codes, RFID, NFC, and related technologies
  • EN 18221:2026 – Data storage, archiving, and persistence
  • EN 18222:2026 – APIs for DPP lifecycle management and searchability
  • EN 18223:2026 – System interoperability
  • EN 18239:2026 – Access rights management, information system security, and business confidentiality
  • EN 18246:2026 – Data authentication, reliability, and integrity

AeonTrace also supports GS1 Digital Link principles, enabling standardized identifiers such as GTINs, GLNs, SSCCs, batch numbers, serial numbers, expiry dates, and other product-related identifiers to be encoded in barcodes or connected to online product information. This allows product identifiers to be scanned and interpreted by systems, while also enabling access to digital product information through online links.

In this way, AeonTrace supports not only ESPR-related DPP compliance, but also broader traceability, interoperability, lifecycle data management, regulatory reporting, and customer communication needs.

AeonTrace is built to conform to the eight European Digital Product Passport standards published by CEN-CENELEC and cited as harmonized standards in the Official Journal of the EU in July 2026. That matters commercially as well as technically: a passport built on these standards carries a presumption of conformity with the DPP requirements of the ESPR, which is the recognized way to demonstrate that a Digital Product Passport meets the regulation. On top of that, AeonTrace gives you the structured data collection, traceability, documentation, and reporting needed to evidence compliance to auditors, authorities, and customers. What no platform can take on is the legal responsibility itself, which stays with the economic operator placing the product on the market, and final compliance also depends on the specific regulation, product category, and the quality of the data provided.

AeonTrace can support data structures and interoperability approaches based on modern and standards-aligned technologies, including JSON data structures, REST APIs, structured data exchange, API-based integration with external systems, and configurable data models. This allows the platform to exchange information with ERP, MES, PLM, quality management systems, supplier systems, laboratory systems, cloud storage, and other enterprise tools.

AeonTrace is also designed to conform to eight European Digital Product Passport technical standards published by CEN-CENELEC in 2026:

  • EN 18216:2026 – Data exchange protocols
  • EN 18219:2026 – Unique identifiers for products, operators, and facilities
  • EN 18220:2026 – Data carriers including QR codes, RFID, NFC, and related technologies
  • EN 18221:2026 – Data storage, archiving, and persistence
  • EN 18222:2026 – APIs for DPP lifecycle management and searchability
  • EN 18223:2026 – System interoperability
  • EN 18239:2026 – Access rights management, information system security, and business confidentiality
  • EN 18246:2026 – Data authentication, reliability, and integrity

In addition, AeonTrace can support GS1 Digital Link, GS1/EPCIS logic, QR/NFC/RFID-based product access, Asset Administration Shell concepts, and semantic or ontology-ready data models where needed. This makes the platform flexible enough to support Digital Product Passport requirements, supply chain traceability, product lifecycle data management, regulatory reporting, and interoperability with existing and future digital ecosystems.

Yes. AeonTrace can provide structured and traceable data that supports audits, certification, verification, conformity assessment, and third-party review processes.

Your data remains yours and you can take it with you. AeonTrace supports full export of product, material, process, and lifecycle data in machine-readable formats such as JSON and CSV, together with the documents attached to each passport, so a passport can be migrated to another platform or maintained internally.

This is a regulatory point as well as a commercial one. EN 18221 requires passport data to stay available for the lifetime of the product, and the ESPR requires provision for continuity if a DPP service provider ceases to operate.

Because AeonTrace follows the published European standards for identifiers, data structures, and APIs, passports created in AeonTrace can be read and continued by any other standards-conformant platform. The modular design of the EN 18xxx series exists precisely to prevent lock-in to a single vendor.

It depends on your product. The ESPR is a framework regulation: it does not impose Digital Product Passport obligations on everything at once. The specific data requirements and dates come from delegated acts, adopted product group by product group.

Two dates are already fixed in law. Batteries require a battery passport from 18 February 2027 under the EU Battery Regulation, and detergents from 23 September 2029.

For the groups in the ESPR Working Plan 2025–2030 – iron and steel, textiles and apparel, tyres, aluminium, furniture, and mattresses – the years given are indicative targets for when the Commission aims to adopt the rule, not dates on which you must have a passport live. Compliance obligations typically follow around 18 months after a delegated act is adopted. Iron and steel is first, with indicative adoption in 2026, followed by textiles and tyres, then furniture and aluminium, then mattresses.

The practical implication is that waiting for your delegated act is usually the wrong strategy. The horizontal standards defining how a passport works are already published, and the data you will need – material composition, supplier information, production records, recycled content – takes far longer to collect and structure than the passport itself takes to generate.

Tell us your product group and we can tell you where it currently sits in the work plan.

Yes. The page a customer or end user reaches when scanning the QR code can be branded with your logo, colours, and typography / configured to match your own site. The final DPP may also be placed on the your own domain or subdomain.

The public view can also be presented in multiple languages, upon custom requrest, so the same passport serves customers across different markets. You decide which information appears in the public view and which stays restricted to selected partners, auditors, or internal teams.

You remain the owner of its data. AeonTrace provides the platform infrastructure to manage, structure, and share the data according to agreed access rights.

Yes. AeonTrace supports different access levels and data-sharing rules. Some information can be public, some private, and some shared only with selected supply chain partners, auditors, or customers.

No. Only the information you selected is made public. Sensitive commercial, technical, or supplier-related data can remain restricted.

AeonTrace uses secure access and data protection mechanisms, including controlled access, user roles, authentication, structured permissions, and secure hosting practices. Communication with the platform is protected through HTTPS, while user authentication and API access can be managed through secure token-based mechanisms such as JSON Web Tokens (JWT). This allows the platform to control who can access, create, update, view, or share specific information. Lastly, access control and confidentiality follow EN 18239, while the data authentication and integrity follow EN 18246, the two security standards in the European DPP series.

AeonTrace also supports role-based access control, meaning that different users, suppliers, customers, auditors, and internal teams can have different permissions depending on their responsibilities. Specific security requirements, such as customer-specific authentication methods, access policies, hosting preferences, data retention rules, or integration with existing IT security procedures, can be discussed and configured during implementation.

Yes and no. This depends on the data model defined for you and on the specific needs of the implementation. In AeonTrace, each data field or parameter can be configured as either static or updatable.

If a parameter is defined as static, once it is submitted and locked, it cannot be changed. This is useful for information that must preserve its originality and integrity, such as initial product specifications, production records, certificates, compliance evidence, inspection results, or other critical data.

If a parameter is defined as updatable, it can be changed during the lifecycle of the product, batch, or item. However, changes are not simply overwritten. AeonTrace maintains a full history of updates, including previous values, new values, timestamps, and relevant lifecycle events. This allows the platform to support dynamic product information while preserving traceability, accountability, and data history.

The DPP can be accessed through a data carrier connected to the product, component, batch, or material, such as a QR code, NFC tag, RFID tag, or another suitable identification technology. For public access, customers, end users, or external stakeholders can scan the QR code or relevant data carrier and access the information that the company has decided to make publicly available.

Authorized users can also access the DPP directly through the AeonTrace web application or tablet/mobile interface using their platform credentials. This allows internal teams, suppliers, auditors, maintenance teams, logistics partners, or other approved stakeholders to view, add, update, or manage information according to their assigned permissions and access rights.

Yes. Depending on the use case, the data carrier can be placed on the product, packaging, component, certificate, label, or documentation.

AeonTrace is suitable for long-lifecycle products because the DPP can be updated with maintenance, repair, ownership, reuse, and end-of-life information over time.

AeonTrace is hosted on Amazon AWS infrastructure. Product, material, process, and lifecycle data stays within the EU/EEA.

Most of what AeonTrace holds is product data rather than personal data. Where personal data is involved – mainly the accounts of users who log in – you remain the data controller and Zerofect acts as processor on your behalf, under a Data Processing Agreement that forms part of the standard contract. [Our sub-processor list and security documentation are available on request.]

If your IT policy requires it, AeonTrace can also be deployed on-premise or in your own cloud tenant, or configured so that documents stay in your own storage environment while AeonTrace holds the structured data, metadata, and references.

AeonTrace pricing is usually structured around two main elements: a one-off setup fee and a monthly subscription fee.

The one-off setup fee covers the initial parametrization and configuration of the platform according to your needs. This may include defining the DPP structure, configuring traceability levels, setting up data fields, user roles, workflows, access rights, reporting needs, and integrating AeonTrace with existing systems such as ERP, MES, PLM, quality systems, supplier systems, or cloud storage platforms.

The monthly subscription fee covers the ongoing use of the platform. This depends on factors such as the number of DPPs, number of users, data volume, storage needs, level of support, number of products or product families, and whether the implementation is a pilot, limited deployment, or full-scale implementation.

Overall, pricing depends on the implementation scope, complexity of the product structure, number of DPPs, required integrations, storage requirements, support level, and the level of customization needed for your specific use case.

Yes. Customers can start with a focused pilot or limited product scope and later expand to additional products, suppliers, factories, or lifecycle stages.

It allows you to test AeonTrace on one product, product family, batch, or supply chain before scaling.

AeonTrace is not just a document storage system. It structures data around products, components, materials, processes, stakeholders, lifecycle events, access rights, and DPP requirements.

AeonTrace combines advanced traceability with Digital Product Passport logic, lifecycle data management, sustainability information, regulatory readiness, supplier collaboration, logistics traceability, and circularity-oriented use cases. Unlike tools that only record the origin of a material or product, AeonTrace supports detailed traceability at quantity, batch, item, material, component, and process level.

For example, if a company receives a 1-ton big bag of plastic pellets and uses 32.45 kg of that material for a specific product or production batch, AeonTrace can record that 32.45 kg were consumed for that product while automatically maintaining the remaining available quantity, in this case 967.55 kg. The same logic can be applied to other material formats, such as metal bars, sheets, rolls, liquids, spare parts, or components.

This enables companies to connect inventory, material consumption, production steps, quality records, logistics events, and final products in one traceable system. In addition, suppliers can directly add or update data through the platform interface or APIs, enabling seamless collaboration and reducing manual data exchange, reformatting, and administrative effort.

The main difference is that AeonTrace is not only a tool for creating the final Digital Product Passport. It also provides the mechanism for collecting, structuring, managing, and using the information needed to create the DPP across the production process, supply chain, logistics, and product lifecycle.

Many DPP tools focus mainly on generating or displaying the final passport, but they do not fully solve the problem of how the required data will be collected, connected, validated, and kept up to date. This can create additional overhead for companies, because the data still needs to be gathered manually from different systems, suppliers, documents, and departments.

AeonTrace addresses this challenge by combining DPP creation with advanced traceability and structured data collection. The platform enables companies to capture information directly from production steps, material consumption, quality inspections, suppliers, logistics events, inventory, maintenance, repair, reuse, recycling, and other lifecycle activities.

Another important difference is the level of traceability. While many DPP solutions are mainly focused on model-level or batch-level passports, AeonTrace can support all traceability levels, including model, batch, sub-batch, item, component, material, quantity, process, and lifecycle-level traceability. This allows companies to comply with regulatory requirements while also satisfying their internal needs for quality management, inventory control, supplier collaboration, reporting, sustainability, and circularity implementation.

In this sense, AeonTrace is a complete solution for Digital Product Passports and advanced traceability, not just a DPP generation tool.

It depends on the scope. If the objective is regulatory Digital Product Passport compliance, companies need to consider not only the creation of the DPP, but also the applicable regulatory requirements for data availability, interoperability, persistence, access rights, identifiers, data carriers, and, where required, the involvement of independent DPP service providers. Therefore, an internal solution may not be sufficient unless it is designed, maintained, and operated in line with the relevant regulatory and technical requirements.

If the objective is only internal traceability or internal product data management, then technically a company could develop its own system. However, this usually requires significant time, software development effort, technical expertise, regulatory knowledge, cybersecurity measures, interoperability planning, maintenance capacity, and continuous updates as regulations and standards evolve.

Another important challenge is collaboration with the external network. A DPP and traceability system does not only involve internal company data; it often requires information from suppliers, logistics partners, service providers, repair actors, recyclers, auditors, and other stakeholders across the supply chain. If the system is developed internally, the company also needs to create and maintain mechanisms for external users to submit data, manage access rights, validate supplier information, standardize data formats, and integrate information coming from different organizations. This can create significant additional burden and manual work.

In practice, it is usually more efficient and cost-effective to use AeonTrace. Your core business is to design, manufacture, and deliver products, not to develop and maintain complex DPP, traceability, and supplier collaboration software. AeonTrace provides a ready, configurable, and standards-aligned platform that helps companies collect structured data from internal and external stakeholders, collaborate with their supply chain, and achieve their traceability, compliance, sustainability, quality, and circularity goals faster, with lower implementation risk and reduced internal development effort.

AeonTrace can start with the available data and progressively improve data completeness. A phased implementation is often the best approach.

AeonTrace supports flexible data entry methods, including manual forms, templates, APIs, and phased supplier onboarding. The platform can help structure collaboration gradually.

No. The first step is to define the required data model and begin collecting the most important information. Data quality and completeness can improve over time.

The biggest challenge is usually not the software itself, but defining the right data management logic around the product and its lifecycle. Companies need to identify which data must be collected, where this data is generated, who is responsible for providing it, how suppliers and external stakeholders will participate, and how data quality will be maintained over time.

Another important challenge is adopting a new way of managing product information. A DPP requires companies to move from fragmented, document-based, or department-based data management toward structured, traceable, and lifecycle-oriented data management. This means that teams need to understand and embrace the logic of collecting data once, connecting it to the right product, batch, item, material, process, or lifecycle event, and reusing it for compliance, reporting, quality management, sustainability, and customer communication.

AeonTrace supports this transition by providing the platform, structure, workflows, and traceability logic needed to make product data usable, reliable, and easy to manage over time.

Yes. Every implementation includes scope: configuration workshops, structured onboarding for administrators and operators, supplier onboarding support.

Training is delivered remotely / on-site / both and covers the roles your teams will actually use – operators entering production data, quality teams, suppliers, administrators managing access rights.
